Agatha Farmer

Cobi is a professional motherhood photographer based in Muskoka. Her usual gig is taking photos of new moms, babies, and moms-to-be, but during the COVID-19 crisis she is using her skills to help her community.

As a result in the last few days she began #TheFrontStepsProject to support the Muskoka Community Foundation. She explains her project vision in a Facebook post on her Wild Mama - Motherhood Photographer page. photography page. To date she has had Bracebridge Mayor Graydon Smith participate in the photo shoot.

"It feels like the world has stopped, doesn’t it? Yet, I am very aware that I am here - in Muskoka - with my family and neighbours, friends and others (though virtually!) during this unprecedented time. As a professional photographer, I capture images of families in times of joy: babies on the way, newborns, siblings, grandparents and more. Those moments of joy are still happening in homes right now. I know it. But I can’t be there to photograph them. Starting today, I am offering to take 5 minute “Front Steps Portraits” of Muskoka residents. After your quick session, I will email you the digital file of your portrait. In exchange, I am asking you make a good faith donation to our local Muskoka Community Foundation who are in grave need of our help through this GoFundMe Campaign.

Through the Muskoka Community Foundation, Muskoka will be able to address pressing issues like hunger, unemployment and housing, and our citizens will benefit from the best our community can offer; the arts, recreation, health care, education, safe and inclusive neighbourhoods and a healthy environment.

I will be posting these images on Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #TheFrontStepsProject. Let’s share these posts and spread the word! We all know someone in our local community who could use a little extra help.

The purpose of this project is to bring us together when we might feel isolated. I aim to highlight the faces of our community during a time when we might not see them in passing at the grocery store, coffee shop, or at a local restaurant or event. Participating in this project is also an opportunity to step up to help those who need it most right now in Muskoka. I will be taking images outside ONLY and from at least 10 feet away. Our session will be brief, likely just 5 minutes. This is not a typical get-dressed-up-and-pose-for-the-photographer session. Want to stand outside in your pajamas and slippers? Sounds good to me! Kids in mismatched clothes but you’re thrilled they got dressed? Fantastic! Be you. Want to participate? Go to the link below and fill out the form and I will get back to you within 24 hours. https://www.cobiphotography.com/the-front-steps-project."
